Application of New Spline-Based Expansion and Weighting Functions for the Analysis of Complex Thin-Wire Structures

An analysis of thin-wire antennas and scatterers using orthogonal spline-based expansions is presented. So-called B-splines are introduced as a generalisation of the rectangular and triangle expansion functions. A procedure is described for obtaining special spline-based functions which incorporate the continuity equation at junctions of wires into expansions. It is clearly shown, that the expansion functions used increase the number of expansions near the junctions of the wires automatically. The thin-wire version of the electric-field integral equation (EFIE) is solved by the Method of Moments (MoM) using Galerkin’s method. Two numerical examples are provided, which fully take advantage of the symmetry of the resulting matrix.
