An Improved Non-Isolated High-Gain Switched Capacitor and Inductor Based DC-DC Converter For EV Charging Applications

For grid-connected applications or high-power applications like fast charging of electric vehicles, high voltage sources were needed. Renewable energy sources (RESs) like fuel cells (FCs) or photovoltaic (PV) arrays necessitate raising the initially low input voltages. This paper presents an efficient high-gain, single-switched DC-DC boost converter using switched-inductor and switched-capacitor cells. The circuit is producing an improved output voltage with a gain of nine. By combining capacitors and diodes, switched-capacitor cells can provide additional voltage levels. The circuit is modelled and analyzed for both CCM and DCM operations. A comparison with other similar DC converter circuits is carried out to further verify the performance of the proposed circuit. High gain output with lower ripple and stresses makes the proposed converter circuit suitable for medium and high-power applications.
