Artificial intelligence: the future of neuroscience

Artificial intelligence (AI) can be a great helping hand in neuroscientific research. The amalgamation of AI and neuroscience shows great prospects in the development of treatments for neurological disorder. Not only this, but with the use of AI we can learn more about the human brain and its cognitive abilities and it will help us in finding answers to the age-old questions regarding cognition, memory and immortality. AI refers to the capacity of logic, reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving that shown by machines rather than living entities. This chapter discusses about various developments in the amalgamation of neuroscience and AI, and the prospects in the near future. The nervous system is a complex system which is divided into central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. These systems are regulated by chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. The function of the brain can be analyzed with the help of various mathematical and computational models. The detection of neurotransmitters is done by using biosensors and machine learning. This amalgamation of neuroscience and AI proves to be very useful for the treatment and detection of a wide variety of neurodegenerative disorders. The prospects of this field are also very promising with the development of latest technology like the Blue Brain Project or the Neuralink.
