Internship Performance of Chemical Engineering Students in Cusco, Peru

The internship performance of Chemical Engineering students at the National University of San Antonio Abad (UNSAAC) in Cusco, Peru was analyzed. The study population was students who carried out their internships during the academic semesters 2022- I, 2022- II, 2023–1, and 2023-11; In addition, the following components were considered within the evaluation: sex, companies where they carried out their internships, sector or field, and supervisor evaluation. The data were analyzed using the free statistical software R, obtaining that more than half of the students carry out their internships in the food industry, 51 %, followed by the environmental and industrial safety sector with 21 % and 6% respectively, in less proportion with mining, research and materials industry sectors with 2%, 2%, and 1 % respectively. The student sex was mostly of men, 69%, and 52% of women, reported during this study period. In addition, 1452 student ratings by their supervisors were evaluated, where students achieved a rating of 17.77 on average, on a scale from 0 to 20, considering a standard deviation of 1.11, and a variability coefficient of 0.06. In general, they were doing well during stage in enterprises; however, there were some recommendations from supervisors about student performance; for example, they should improve punctuality, communication and teamwork skills.
