Siltation Modeling in Laguna Lake: A Case Study of Brgy. Palingon, Calamba City

This study aimed to address the escalating siltation problem in Laguna Lake, particularly in Brgy. Palingon. By employing a digital simulator, the research sought to predict siltation levels and inform effective mitigation strategies. The study's findings reveal a moderate level of soil erosion, with an annual soil loss of 101 Mt and an average loss rate of 2.5 t/ha/y. This contributes to siltation in the study area, potentially affecting water levels and causing flooding. The developed simulator, utilizing the RUSLE, Reynolds Number, Manning-Strickler equation, and Meyer-Peter Muller Model, offers a valuable tool for local government units in monitoring siltation and alerting residents to potential flooding risks. The study assumes that the models used are accurate and representative of the study area, and that external factors not considered in the model have a negligible impact on siltation. Further research is recommended to refine the simulator by integrating 3D modeling, incorporating real-time data, and exploring flood simulation capabilities. Additionally, investigating the socio-economic impacts of siltation and developing comprehensive mitigation strategies are essential for the effective management of Laguna Lake's environmental challenges.
