Utilizing Extended Digital Twin to Enable Interactive Business Intelligence Services in Prefabricated Building Components Manufacturing Facilities

Digital Twin (DT) has emerged as a transformative technology across various industries, enabling the creation of virtual replicas of physical entities for real-time monitoring, analysis, and optimization. The integration of DT in industrial settings, particularly in building management and manufacturing, has proven to be a significant advancement. This study aims to investigate the utilization of the so-called eXtended Digital Twin (XDT), a holistic concept of DT able to enhance sustainability in logistics, energy consumption, communications, planning, safety, security, internal mobility, and liveability. The XDT presented in this paper is analyzed and implemented in industrial buildings, including, but not limited to, offices and factories to enable business intelligence, enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making processes within prefabricated building components manufacturing facilities. This paper presents the methodology adopted, and the opportunities and challenges that emerged regarding implementing XDT.
