Development of Unit Functions of Electrowetting-on-dielectric Digital Microfluidics

This paper presents the development of various unit functionalities of electrowetting on dielectric (EWOD) digital microfluidics (DMF). To build systems such as micro total analysis system and high throughput drug discovery and screening system, multiple unit functions of microfluidics need to be integrated monolithically. For the seamless integration, this paper focuses on EWOD DMF as the main microfluidic tool and demonstrates successful unit functions of; i) microextraction for sample preparation, ii) ion-selective sensor array for high-throughput chemical sensing, iii) 3-dimensional cell-based assay, and iv) high-throughput organic chemical reactions.
