Utilizing Electropolymerized Polyaniline Films for Acetic Acid Detection: A Proof of Concept

In the present study screen printed carbon electrodes have been modified by electrodeposition of polyaniline to detect acetic acid. Volatile acetic acid content needs monitoring for the manufacturing of premium wines. This acid content is in very trace amounts and hence electrochemical detection can provide a cost-effective testing standard for quality monitoring purposes. Electrochemical deposition of polyaniline on carbon electrodes is an efficient method to increase the conductivity and sensitivity of the sensor. Further this method of synthesis of polymers is simple, cost-effective, and environment friendly. The current sensor shows high sensitivity for acetic acid with the lowest detected concentration of 0.01mM and a linear increase in peak current with an r-square value of 0.97. The proposed carbon electrode modified with polyaniline exhibits potential for applications in monitoring food quality and microbiological development.
