Patrick J. Hanratty: Pioneer in Commercial CAD/CAM Software Systems

Patrick J. Hanratty was an early developer of CAD/CAM software applications. In addition to helping develop early numerical control programming software systems in the 1950s and 1960s, he and the companies he later founded developed some of the first integrated CAD/CAM software systems: INTERAPT at Integrated Computer Systems and then the machine-independent ADAM at Manufacturing and Consulting Services (MCS). ADAM—the first commercially available, interactive design, drafting, and manufacturing system—and subsequent MCS product releases were sold and licensed in a variety of industries, including shipbuilding, manufacturing, aerospace, and nuclear systems.
