Three-Phase Switched Capacitor Boost Inverter for Photovoltaic Pumping Systems with Adapted Space Vector Modulation

This paper presents a Three-phase Switched Capacitor Boost Inverter controlled by an Adapted Space Vector Modulation technique to drive an induction motor for pumping systems. This structure eliminates the need for bulky DC/DC boost converters by integrating three cascaded switched capacitor units within the inverter. This clever integration not only boosts the input DC voltage and achieves higher gains but also reduces weight, and volume, and minimizes power losses. The adapted Space Vector Modulation with its dynamic modulation index based on the operating mode of the structure, enables the three-phase switched capacitor Boost Inverter to operate at extended voltage ranges for enhanced photovoltaic pumping efficiency. The switched capacitor Boost Inverter operating modes and control scheme are explained and the simulation results are presented, discussed, and validated experimentally under constant and dynamic operating conditions.
