Energy Optimization and Control of Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant Using MATLAB Simulink

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to optimizing energy consumption in a Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plant using MATLAB Simulink. The model integrates a enthusiastic drain, a PID boss, and an Energy Recovery Device (ERD) to enhance bureaucracy's effectiveness. The basic focus act underrating strength usage while upholding the essential pressure for persuasive desalination .The ERD subsystem is modeled to capture and reuse energy from the brine stream, significantly reducing the overall energy demand. Additionally, the system is tested under dynamic conditions, including varying seawater pressure and fluctuating water demand, to simulate real-world scenarios. The results demonstrate that the combined use of the PID controller and ERD not only ensures stable operation but also achieves substantial energy savings. This study underscores the importance of dynamic modeling and control strategies in regions. Among the various desalination technologies, Reverse Osmosis (RO) stands out due to its relatively low energy consumption and high efficiency in removing salts and other impurities from seawater and brackish water. However, RO desalination is still energy-intensive, and the cost of optimizing desalination processes, providing valuable insights for improving the sustainability of RO plants.
