FPGA-Enabled Rapid Prototyping of Isolated Bidirectional Full-Bridge DC-DC Converter Control for Electric Vehicle Applications

This work demonstrates FPGA-in-Loop (FIL) based controller design for a 2.4KW isolated bidirectional DC-DC full bridge converter for Electric Vehicles (EV) applications. The isolated converter is designed, analyzed, and implemented using small signal modeling and MATLAB Simulink environment. A discrete closed-loop PI controller is realized using the FPGA in a hardware-in-loop interfacing mechanism to control the converter. The controller is tuned and implemented on the FPGA, minimizing the undesired effects of the steady-state and transient response of the system. The performance evaluation of the controller is discussed in detail in this work.
