Implementation of Solar Powered Based Smart Drip Irrigation System Using IoT

Traditional agriculture has been the pillar for the development of the earth for centuries. The present irrigation system has huge water loss and poor efficiency. The precision of irrigation has been greatly enhanced through the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, allowing the system to gather real-time data. The proposed system aims to utilize renewable energy resources, optimize the use of water for irrigation, improve crop yield, and minimize environmental impacts. It includes various sensors and monitoring devices. These devices monitor soil moisture, humidity, temperature, rain, and water level in the field and send the data to an IoT-based cloud platform (Thing Speak) to run the system effectively. Furthermore, the system has remote access facilities, allowing farmers to monitor and operate the water pump through mobile devices or laptops. This enables farmers to make timely adjustments for different crops and according to weather conditions, leading to better crop growth and productivity. This paper demonstrates the benefits of the proposed system, which significantly reduces water consumption and improves system efficiency. The proposed system has undergone practical testing in real-time monitoring, and its performance has been assessed. Results show that the proposed system minimizes overall water and power consumption, becomes more efficient, and prevents over-irrigation through drip irrigation, where water is supplied at a lower rate compared to other irrigation methods.
