Study and Simulation of Green Hydrogen Production Systems Coupled With Concentrated Photovoltaic Generators

As part of its economic recovery plan, Tunisia places a strong emphasis on producing and utilising low-carbon and green hydrogen due to its abundance of energy resources, especially its solar potential, and its commitment to achieving energy transition goals. Conventional hydrogen extraction methods rely on heat or electrical energy. Concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) modules can be used to produce hydrogen using a water electrolyser with solar electricity, thus eliminating the need for fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions. In this article, an assessment of the technical potential for producing hydrogen from this system is studied. The paper's main focus is on the integration of electrolysis hydrogen production with renewable energy like concentrated PV (CPV). In the Matlab/Simulink environment, a complete modelling of the CPV electrolysis system is developed. Simulation results indicate that employing a DC/DC buck converter with MPPT control enables a more effective alignment between the CPV generator and alkaline electrolysis.
