3D Bioprinting Cell Detection Using Autofocused Compressive Holography

The utilization of 3D bioprinting presents a revolutionary avenue for producing functional tissues or organs in vitro through the precise layering of biological materials and living cells. An essential aspect of the 3D bioprinting process is the real-time detection of cells with high speed and accuracy. However, conventional cell detection techniques face notable challenges, such as intricate procedures and reliance on external dyes. This research integrates compressed sensing and autofocusing techniques with digital holographic microscopy to address these limitations. Through simulations conducted in a highly scattering environment and experiments involving polystyrene particles and mesenchymal stem cells in water and gelatin, the study showcases an axial resolution of under $3\mu\mathrm{m}$ and improved detection accuracy.
