Reconstructing a power supply and environment monitoring system based on optical line terminals

After a utility power outage at the communication base station, the base station battery remains operational, providing power to the optical line terminal and enabling the stable functioning of the home broadband service. The base station battery’s limited lifespan and inadequate performance, along with the presence of multiple types of transmission equipment and excessive workload, collectively result in a reduced battery life. The power environment monitoring system of the base station concurrently monitors all communication equipment with defective functionality, but it lacks the ability to effectively monitor the optical line terminal in real time. Consequently, the maintenance personnel are unable to promptly respond to power generation issues at the site. Hence, this paper suggests implementing a dual direct current power supply for the optical line terminal, utilizing a lithium iron phosphate battery as a backup power source exclusively for the optical line terminal, employing the optical line terminal uplink interface for autonomous power environment monitoring, and ultimately accomplishing the reconstruction of the power supply and environment monitoring system centered around the optical line terminal. The findings of the installation test conducted in the communication room indicate a considerable decrease in the optical line terminal withdrawal rate and the average duration of a single optical line terminal withdrawal from the network owing to a power outage, as compared to the prior period. This provides evidence that the rebuilding efforts have been successful.
