A White Box Test Method for Smart Energy Meter

With the continuous progress of smart energy meter technology and the increase of functional complexity, the role of software in it is becoming more and more prominent, which also makes its reliability problem become particularly important. Software testing is the key element to ensure the reliability of software. Considering that black-box testing cannot realize branch coverage testing compared with white box testing, this paper proposes an automated white box testing method for smart energy meters based on FLASH and EEPROM read and write backup. The automated white-box test of smart energy meter is accomplished through the construction of related test environment. The test method realizes the full coverage of the software branching path of the smart energy meter by controlling the hardware failure through software. The realization of this test method improves the software reliability of the energy meter without the need to conduct complicated tests on the hardware, which lowers the threshold of the test.
