Evaluation of Self-storage Potential and Investigation of Regulation Strategies for Cooling system

Addressing the limitations of conventional cool storage methods in cooling systems, which often struggle with high investment costs, site constraints, and limited participation in grid peak shaving, this paper introduces a novel self-storage approach. This method leverages the modulation of chilled water temperatures within the user-side piping network to achieve cool storage and release, thereby facilitating grid peak shaving without incurring additional costs. To quantify the self-storage potential of cooling systems, it then progresses to a simulation to compare the cool storage rates, cool storage durations, and cool storage energy efficiency ratios (EERs) under both conventional and optimized regulation strategies. The findings reveal that, compared to conventional strategies, an optimized operation strategy targeting the maximization of cool storage EER can effectively reduce the cool storage duration and elevate the upper limit of the cool storage rate.
