Design and Performance Analysis of Cuk based Bidirectional EV Charger

The paper presents a single-phase grid connected EV charging system. This system contains a grid, a nonlinear load, GSC (Grid Side Converter), BSC (Battery Side Converter) with battery. The grid supplies power to nonlinear load and the battery through bidirectional Cuk converter i.e to charge the battery. Similarly, the battery operates to supply power to the non-linear load and surplus power to the grid during discharging operation. Active/Reactive power exchange becomes feasible between EV battery and grid because of the bidirectional power flow property of the charger via the two modes of operation i.e., Vehicle to Grid (V2G) and Grid to Vehicle (G2V). This paper also presents the modeling of Cuk converter. Simulation results are presented for the system modelled in Matlab/Simulink.
