V2X Credential Management System Comparison Based on IEEE 1609.2.1 and ETSI TS 102 941

Considering that the current V2X Security Credential Management System (SCMS) primarily adopts either the North American standards (e.g. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards) or the European standard (e.g. European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) standards), this study focuses on comparing the differences between these two standards. Specifically, it compares the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) architectures of Vehicular-to-Everything (V2X) networks (such as the North American SCMS and the European Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) SCMS (CCMS), the certificate application processes, and the request/response message formats for certificate application. Theoretical exploration delves into message length and security of the two standards. Furthermore, this study implements both standards and compares the efficiency of certificate application. Finally, based on the comparative results, relevant suggestions are proposed for the reference of future developers.
