Adaptive Control Strategy for Inertia and Damping Coefficients of Virtual Synchronous Generator

The conventional virtual synchronous generator (VSG) makes it difficult to meet the system demand for rapid frequency response and recovery under grid-connected conditions. To address this issue, a kind of adaptive control strategy for inertia and damping coefficients is proposed in this paper. Firstly, by establishing the small signal model of VSG, the influence of inertia and damping coefficients on the system is analyzed. Subsequently, the function relation is presented to achieve adaptive control. Finally, the control model based on the NPC-type energy storage converter is constructed in MATLAB/Simulink, and simulation verifications are performed. The results show that the proposed control strategy is effective in improving the ability of the system to respond quickly and recover from frequency fluctuations.
