Design and Verification of the Control Algorithm of an Anti-Lock Braking System for Commercial Motorcycles

This paper proposes an anti-lock brake system (ABS) designed to enhance braking efficiency and maneuverability for motorcycles. The proposed ABS independently controls the braking pressure at each wheel, which helps prevent the rider from falling during emergency braking situations. It has been installed on a commercial motorcycle to verify its functionality. Several tests were conducted to assess the braking performance on both uniform and uneven road surfaces. The results demonstrate that the proposed ABS accurately adjusts the braking pressure at each wheel, prevents wheel lock-up, and maintains the motorcycle’s controllability during emergency braking. The system meets regulatory requirements for all tests. Emergency braking maneuvers will become safer and more efficient through the use of advanced safety techniques in anti-lock braking systems.
