Intelligent Road Surface Repair Planning

This paper proposes an approach for intelligent pavement repair scheduling depending on the calculated pavement condition index (PCI). Basic methods for predicting PCI values that take into account quality indicators, age, and deflection of the pavement surface are reviewed. Regardless of the calculation method chosen, the PCI values obtained allow estimating the extent of roadway deterioration. Pavement remaining service life prediction methods are also described to predict the dynamics of pavement deterioration over time. A methodology for intelligent pavement repair scheduling is presented, which includes the possibility of selecting three different scheduling modes. A heuristic algorithm that implements this methodology for scheduling repairs is proposed. As an example, the determination of pavement condition based on the calculated PCI index values is given.
