Abnormal State Estimation of Shunt Capacitor Banks Based on Transient Power Disturbance Feature Extraction

Shunt capacitor banks are essential for reactive power compensation to ensure voltage stability and reduce system losses. Capacitor banks consist of multiple units with components in series and parallel. A small number of component failures will not immediately affect the safe operation of the capacitor bank. However, due to component breakdown, the capacitance voltage will be redistributed, which will have an impact on other devices. Practical operational experience shows that capacitors generate many transient disturbance signals when some components exhibit breakdown. Quantitative analysis of the transient disturbance signals can find capacitor anomalies, allowing the extraction of transient disturbance characteristics based on the Prony algorithm. The transient signals quantitatively estimate the phase and number of capacitors that break down to judge capacitor anomalies. In this paper, PSCAD/EMTDC provide a verification model. Thus, the theoretical analyses and correctness of the detection algorithm are verified.
