A Framework for Energy Management and Power Quality Monitoring in Institution Buildings

Electricity management systems are becoming increasingly important for industries because energy plays a vital role in human progress and economic development. These systems help control energy use in buildings, with many now turning to renewable energy to save energy and improve efficiency. However, the growing use of electronic devices and renewable energy can sometimes cause issues like voltage imbalances and power quality problems due to energy conversion processes. Ensuring good power quality is crucial for a continuous and reliable electricity supply. By combining energy management systems with power quality monitoring, a comprehensive system can be created. This system, called the Energy Management and Power Quality Monitoring System (EMPQMS), uses Lyapunov modeling and Stockwell Transform to optimize energy management and detect power quality disturbances. Laboratory experiments and site measurements conducted in an institution building in UTM, Johor using MATLAB R2022b and FLUKE PQ analyzer help verify the reliability of EMPQMS. This system aims to offer innovative features for energy management that benefit all stakeholders.
