A comparison of the performance of different laser amplifier media

The amplification of a laser pulse has been evaluated numerically for three different laser media, viz., Nd-POCl
3
, Nd-glass, and ruby. An energy-utilization factor is defined and calculated for the same media. Finally, a dimensionless plot is given from which the amplification can be calculated for arbitrary numerical conditions.
