Failure Forecast Diagnosis of Transmission Tower Using Acoustic Emission Sensor

In this study, we used three acoustic emission sensors and installed them onto the member of the transmission towers to transmit certain sound. We then picked up the ultrasound signal generated from the sections simulating the deformation of foundation and members, and rusting and corrosion on members and bolts caused by sea salt. Following that, we applied Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to the signal and analyzed the waveform and successfully located the sections with deterioration in the members, establishing a method to assess the remaining life too forecast the timing for repairing members and rebuilding towers.
