Finite Element Analysis of Air-Insulator Discharge Current with Discharge Distance

In high-voltage direct current insulation, the interfaces between air and insulators are weak insulating regions that can deteriorate insulation performance. However, the phenomena occurring at heterogeneous interfaces remain challenging to understand. Therefore, this study conducted a charge analysis of the air-insulator heterogeneous interface in a high-voltage direct current environment. The effect of the distance between the needle and the insulator on the discharge current, as a function of the thickness of the dielectric when the needle-flat plate electrode distance is constant, has been rarely reported. In this study, we simulated the applied voltage that generates current pulses as a function of discharge distance and analyzed the current pulses in the discharge region.
