Stability of a platform support vessel with a crawler crane on its main deck

Supply and support vessels in the oil industry have stood out for their operational capabilities and their ease of structural adaptations to operational requirements. This article presents the evaluation of the static stability of a supply and support vessel, where it is proposed to install a 103-ton crawler crane because it will perform maintenance operations offshore. This static stability analysis incorporates loads using finite element method (FEM) models. Four main boom lifting capacities are analysed (33.1 for a 16-meter boom length, 32.8 tons for a 19-meter boom length, 31.3 tons for a 34-meter boom length, and 22.1 tons for a 52-meter boom length). The results show that the ship has a stability reserve to maintain the angles of heel and trim below the 5° and 3° indicated by the regulatory regulations of ships.
