Effort to Replicate Custom-made Augmented Reality Haploscope

In extended reality (XR) research field, numerous scientists have engineered a variety of custom-made displays to advance the development of next-generation XR technology. There is concern that the advancement and results of these custom-built displays are confined to particular research groups. Hence, this paper presents an attempt to replicate a custom-built augmented reality (AR) display by replicating the design, assembly, and calibration of an AR Haploscope. AR haploscope is a tabletop custom-made optical see-through (OST) AR display consisting of several optical elements. We provide a detailed description of how we recreated the AR haploscope setup following the guidelines found in the existing literature on the configuration of the AR haploscope. We also discuss the challenges encountered during the replication of a custom-made AR display. Our successful replication effort will motivate other researchers to participate in replicating the assembly of custom-designed XR displays.
