Circular Shaped Meta-Surface Embedded Monopole Antenna for Ultra-Wideband MIMO Applications with Frequency Notched Characteristics

For applications requiring frequency notching, a revised compact MIMO plan with an integrated UWBA is projected.Two similar monopole antennas powered by two microstrip are used for this configuration. By strategically placing the circular metamaterial elements on the upper side, the gain is increased. The inclusion of a metasurface significantly improves antenna gain compared to conventional designs. Notch frequencies are achieved using L-shaped quarter-wave lines on each antenna lead. This antenna maintains an proper bandwidth of -10 dB throughout the range with a peak frequency of 5.5 GHz to suppress interference from the 5-6 GHz WLAN band. The results obtained from full-wave simulations of the manufactured prototype were experimentally verified for impedance, gain and radiation characteristics.
