Design and Analysis of 256 Splitter Ratio for XGS-PON FTTH Network in an Urban Area

The demand for Internet network services will continue to grow as the population increases. With this growth, there is a greater need for increased bandwidth. This paper discusses a proposed design of an XGS-PON (10 Gigabit Symmetrical Passive Optical Network) FTTH access network for Pesona Kahuripan 3, Bogor, West Java, including calculations and analysis of the link power budget, rise time budget, BER, and Q factor to assess the viability of the proposed design. The design considers a cascade of high split ratios in ODC and ODP to increase user capacity. The result shows that the proposed FTTH design achieved all parameters in splitter ratio 1:256 with the received power of -24.090 dBm and -23.803 dBm for uplink and downlink, respectively, higher than the minimum required value of -29 dBm. The rise time system for uplink is 0.264 ns, and for downlink it is 0.265 ns, which is lower than the NRZ requirement value of 0.7 ns. BER for upstream is 2.93 × 10^-15, and for downstream it is 2.274 × 10^-18, which is lower than 10^-9. These results indicate that the proposed network can be implemented using a high splitting ratio of 1:256.
