High Voltage Driver with Multiple Outputs Capable of Independent PWM Control

We propose a high voltage driver with multiple outputs and apply it to an inkjet printer head driver using an integrated serial peripheral interface (SPI). In order to expand the number of nozzles that can be driven, the proposed driver must be connected by daisy-chained SPI. Through this SPI bus, not only inkjet head printing data and but also information to correct the deviation of individual nozzles are transmitted. This correction is realized by fine-tuning the effective time during which the electric field is supplied to the nozzle. The proposed and designed high voltage driver has been successfully realized using bipolar-CMOS-DMOS on silicon-on-insulator process. Additionally, the fabricated drivers were packaged via chip-on-board technology and applied as an inkjet head driver module.
