Real-Time Integrated Impedance Sensor for Energy - Oil and Gas - Optimization in Onshore Wells with Artificial Lifting IGL

This work presents an impedance sensor and a method to estimate the production of oil wells that use artificial lift of the IGL type (intermittent gas lift). The essential advantage of this method is its independence from fluctuating well parameters, enabling the generation of production data for every individual oil slug. Its integration with well automation systems facilitates remote real-time data access, opening up exciting possibilities for autonomous well optimization and seamless integration with AI algorithms. Field tests were carried out on oil wells within the operational unit of Recôncavo Bahia, Brazil, with Petrobras' (Brazilian oil and gas company) support and infrastructure. The data produced by the sensor was rigorously compared with concurrently measured data during the testing phase, confirming the practicality and accuracy of its application. As a direct consequence of process optimization, it is possible to produce the same volume of oil and substantially reduce energy costs and expenses. This, in turn, contributes to a diminished global carbon footprint and obviates the need to explore new oil deposits further.
