Impact Evaluation of Trip Time and Distance on Distribution Restration by EV Replacement Operation

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) with charge and discharge of electric vehicles (EVs) can contribute to power system control and operation. Vehicle-to-home (V2H), where an EV directly charges from or discharges to a residential house, is one type of V2G. When an accident occurs in a distribution network and distribution lines are not available, the EVs can supply electricity by V2H to the customers in the accident section of the distribution network. However, the stored energies will be run out as long as the EVs continue to discharge. In this study, a sustainable V2H method is proposed that the EVs in the accident section, whose state of charges (SOCs) become low due to the V2H controls, are regularly replaced with those with high SOCs in the healthy section where the EVs are charged of the distribution network. The impact of trip time and distance of the EVs on the restoration is evaluated by numerical simulations conducted on several distribution system models. The simulation results show that the longer the distribution system is, the higher the impact of trip distance is.
