A Modular Cell Balancing Circuit for Supercapacitors Based on LC Resonant Units and Buck-Boost Converters

This paper proposes a modular cell balancing circuit for supercapacitors employing LC resonant units and buck-boost converters. Each module consists of two supercapacitor cells. Intra-module balancing is achieved using buck-boost converters within the modules. Inter-module balancing is realized using LC resonant units in between the modules. Simulation results verify the functionality of the proposed balancing circuit. Moreover, the balancing time of the proposed circuit is significantly shortened compared to two baseline balancing circuits using only LC circuits and buck-boost converters.
