Measurement Method for Lap Times Using 1500m Track Video

This study analyzes video of middle-distance track races. Competition video of the 1500-meter race frequently change camera angles to provide immersion, often omitting scenes that capture lap times. In this research, the proposed method in the paper suggests estimating lap times for individual runners from race videos, particularly when scenes of second place and subsequent runners crossing the finish line are not available. It was validated to estimate lap times accurately within a 0.2-second margin compared to official records. The top rankings were considered to be achieved by players who maximize the performance they had conserved throughout the draft.
