Ultra-Spot Detection Using Multiple Wi-Wi Devices for mmWave/THz UAV-UAV Communications

In UAV-UAV communication, accurately predicting the location and orientation of ultra-high-speed mmWave/THz spots (ultra-spot) created by other UAVs is crucial. This paper proposes a novel method for proactively detecting ultra-spot using joint Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and phase measurements from multiple Wireless Two-way Interferometry devices (Wi-Wi) mounted on an in-flight UAV. We conduct real-world UAV-UAV communication experiments and employ experimental data to validate the proposed method. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method maximizes the likelihood of ultra-spot detection during UAV flight and estimates the ultra-spot location with an accuracy of 37.16 cm compared to the ground truth.
