Abstract:

The interstitium is an important part of the continuous of fluid circulation that maintains homeostasis throughout the body (carrying metabolic substrates, waste products and immune mediators). Interstitial spaces are present in every organ. The structure and composition of the interstitium varies depending on the functional state and organ affiliation. The purpose of the study was to identify the structural features of the interstitial spaces in the gingival mucosa, synovium, eye and colon adenocarcinoma. Using the method of ultrastructural analysis, we identified three different structural states of interstitial channels under normal conditions: narrow pericapillary spaces, medium-sized channels between fibroblasts and collagen fibers, and wide channels limited by fibroblast processes. It has been shown that the size of the interstitial channels increases under pathological conditions.
