Thermostat Behavior Analysis in Smart Home Environment Using Petri Nets

In the European Union, as well as at global level, energy efficiency is important in order to achieve energy savings and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is driving growing demand for energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy sources, which attracts investment and stimulates economic growth. Housing buildings consume a significant amount of energy, most of which is used for space heating. Therefore, it is essential to assess the energy efficiency of the heating system, especially in terms of minimizing heat losses. This paper proposes a Petri net-based approach for modeling and simulating the behavior of a smart thermostat in a smart home environment. By accurately representing the thermostat dynamics and interactions with other smart home components, the model aims both to optimize the performance of the heating system and to reduce overall energy consumption.
