Transient Recovery Voltage Effects in Circuit Breakers Involved in Series-Connected Air Core Reactors

Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) effect has an impact in circuit breakers regarding to high voltage grids involved with high short circuit, especially in air-core reactors applications, because of explosions occurred in circuit breakers during the last years; caused by TRV effect over these devices. This research has a novel contribution with a new proposal improvement, for the international standard as lEC 62271-100:2020 [1], with the selection criteria to mitigate the TRV effect, for limiting short circuit in air-core reactors, verifying, and the efficiency in a real case study in Peru. In this model, we proposed an equivalent of air core reactor, with simulations and real data validations, performed for different approaches, with improvement for the international standards.
