Ampacity Calculation of Submarine Cable Systems based on IEC 60287 and CIGRE's Guidelines

This paper presents a Python application for ampac-ity calculation in buried submarine cable systems. The program is developed based on the IEC 60287 Standard and CIGRE's TB880 guidelines for ampacity calculation tools, from which two examples are selected as benchmark values. The cables are then modelled in the Python application and DlgSILENT PowerFactory Software. Results show that the developed appli-cation can correctly assess the ampacity for both the simple and complex cable structures presented in this paper. Due to restrictions in cable modeling and some differences in the standard interpretation, PowerFactory ampacity values diverge from the benchmark, which may lead to a less accurate cable selection.
