Study of an EV Driving Range Evolution Considering Battery Capacity Degradation

The aim of this paper is to study the impact of battery ageing on the performances of an electric vehicle. The vehicle studied is a 2020 Nissan Leaf, with a 40kWh battery. An accelerated ageing test has been performed. The capacity of the battery has been recorded. The objective of this paper is to highlight if the driving range evolution is close to the capacity fade over time. The evolution of the EV driving range is studied in simulation for a complete vehicle from the Beginning of Life (BoL), to the End of Life (EoL) of the battery. A Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) is used. Results show a reduction of 20.4% of the driving range for a 20% capacity decrease at the EoL.
