In Situ Detection and Imaging of Microplastics in Water Using Ultrasound and Photo Acoustic Technology

Microplastics in ocean has become one of the major threats to marine life and associated ecosystem and this will eventually impact our future generation. Therefore, detection of microplastics in ocean is essential to assess and control the pollution. Although, there are established methods for detecting microplastic, none are compatible for in situ application. In this paper, we evaluate the potential of two promising techniques, ultrasound and photo acoustic technologies for in situ detection of microplastic.
