North Atlantic Right Whale (NARW) Line-Array Beamformer Performance Using Energy Detection and Pitch-Tracking Classification Metrics

A pitch-track classifier is applied to sonar data to detect Right whale upcalls. Data is beamformed and retested. Results fail to demonstrate performance gains. Simulation data is generated to investigate the problem. Variance of the distribution underlying the Mahalanobis distance or classification catalogue is found to be the largest contributor to classifier performance.
