Malware Trend in Smart Grid Cyber Security

Cybersecurity is one of the building blocks of a current complex smart grid that has multi-faceted dimensions. Since the Ukraine grid attack in 2015, worldwide, electricity utilities have had to bolster the cyber defence posture in the growing realm of cyber-attacks. One of the noteworthy cyber-attack types is malware, which extensively uses SCADA in the operational technology domain of the power sector. The massive amount of data collected and managed in the cyber world invariably raises the danger of network system vulnerability. Given the likelihood of the dark web's members being similarly intelligent, the growing complexity of IT-OT (information technology and operations technology) interwoven systems raises concerns about cyber threats to the electrical utility. Some of the OT malware transpired chronologically when analysed, providing scope for observing the malicious trend and the corresponding potential in the future.
