Driver Technologies for Solid-State Lighting: A Comprehensive Review and Proposed Classification

Light-emitting diodes (LED) are becoming the primary lighting source nowadays due to their outstanding performance. Nevertheless, LEDs must be driven by a current-controlled driver. The strong demand for LEDs in numerous applications leads to a rapid development in LED driver technology. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art LED driver technology including DC supplied, as well as single-phase and three-phase AC supplied LED drivers. Furthermore, the paper illustrates the up-to-date technology in LED driver control, and cutting-edge LED driver features such as Visible Light Communication. Nearly a hundred articles were revised to present a comprehensive LED driver technology review.
