Challenges Related to Renewable Production and Electric Mobility. Part I - Analysis, Solutions and Techno-Sociological Perspectives

In the face of current climate challenges and intensified international efforts towards sustainability, issues related to renewable production and electric mobility require an integrated approach of both technical and sociological dimensions. This paper aims to analyze the sociological impact of adopting green technologies, such as electric vehicles and photovoltaic panels, as promising solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting sustainable development. The study underpins a mixed methodology, combining quantitative and qualitative analysis, to explore the perceptions and readiness to adopt these technologies among students at the University of Craiova and their affiliates. It examines these aspects through the lens of five fundamental sociological theories: social change theory, diffusion of innovation theory, social capital theory, socio-technical dynamics and resistance to change. The analysis focuses on the differences and similarities between the two groups, regarding the level of knowledge, motivations and perceived barriers to the use of these technologies. Preliminary results indicate a moderate interest in adopting electric vehicles, with the main barriers being initial costs and underdeveloped infrastructure. On the other hand, photovoltaic panels are perceived as a viable long-term solution, but are deterred by high costs and lack of information. Ultimately, the study emphasizes the importance of education, government support and adequate infrastructure to overcome these obstacles, highlighting the profound role that students play, as agents of change in their communities. Their active involvement improve collaboration between all stakeholders involved in this process, from authorities and academia to the business environment and local communities, thus contributing to the creation of an enabling framework for the implementation of sustainable solutions.
