Design of an Acceleration ASIC for Real-Time Integrated Navigation System

This paper presents an acceleration ASIC design for real-time navigation system. The ASIC can be divided into ARM MCU part and the hardware accelerator part, and the structure of accelerator is designed based on the most common sensor fusion framework, Kalman Filter. The trigonometric function and matrix operations can be accelerated and the performance evaluation result of the AHRS algorithm shows that the proposed accelerator can improve execution time by more than 50 times. The ASIC is manufactured using SMIC 180nm CMOS technology, with a layout area of $4.4\text{mm}\times 4.6\text{mm}$ and 195.84mW power consumption, which can be applied in embedded and wearable devices.
