Preliminary Results Of A Systematic Literature Review On The Application Of Value Stream Mapping In Software Process Improvement

One of the success factors for software development projects in an organization largely depends on how well-defined and institutionalized their processes are. In this context, adopting software process improvement projects offers benefits related to reducing project delivery time, increasing staff productivity, and improving customer satisfaction. On the other hand, the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) emerges as a tool to identify and eliminate waste in software development processes, allowing the visualization and analysis of workflow from a value perspective, highlighting areas of inefficiency and bottlenecks that can be optimized. The objective of this study is to establish a broader state of knowledge about the application of the Value Stream Mapping tool in software process improvement. This tool can help identify and manage the waste generated in a software development process to increase the value delivery in final products. This study presents the results obtained after conducting a systematic literature review, describing emerging trends, challenges, and solutions in integrating the Value Stream Mapping tool into software process improvement.
